Ingredients and allergens

Are your products nut-free?

Our Beard Oil is. It was reformulated to remove argan oil specifically so that men with tree nut allergies could use it, and it now runs on castor, jojoba, abyssinian, echium seed, rosehip and kalahari melon oil — seeds and fruits, no tree nuts.

Our balms and creams are not. They contain refined shea butter and cocoa butter, both nut-derived. We could apply "nut-free" across the whole range the way some brands do, and we don't, because it wouldn't be true.

If your allergy is severe, show the full ingredient list to your allergist before using any product, including ours.

Is jojoba oil a nut?

No. Jojoba is a seed from a desert shrub, not a tree nut. It is one of the best carrier oils available for beard products because its structure closely resembles the skin's own sebum.

Are your products gluten-free?

Yes — by formulation, and we manufacture in small batches in the USA, which means we can answer the manufacturing question as well as the ingredient one. That second part matters: a product can contain no gluten-derived ingredient and still be contaminated on shared equipment.

Are they vegan? Do they contain beeswax?

Vegan, and no beeswax. Almost every beard balm on the market uses beeswax for structure, which quietly puts the category off-limits to vegans. Ours uses carnauba and BTMS wax instead.

Worth knowing: cruelty-free and vegan are different claims. Cruelty-free means not tested on animals. Vegan means no animal-derived ingredients. A beeswax balm can be the first without being the second.

Are your products fragrance-free?

No. All of our products are scented — smoldering sandalwood with sweet vanilla, and calendula and orange in some formulas — using an essential oil blend. If you need genuinely fragrance-free products, ours are not the right choice, and we'd rather tell you that than have you find out.

What does hypoallergenic mean here?

It means we formulate to reduce the likelihood of a reaction: no common irritant fillers, a short ingredient list, and allergens deliberately removed where we can. It is not a guarantee, and no product can make one. Anyone can react to anything.

Where are they made?

In the USA, in small batches, formulated by a pharmacist.

Using the products

Which product should I start with?

If your beard feels coarse or scratchy, start with the Beard Oil. If the skin underneath feels dry or tight, start with the Beard Cream. If you want shape and hold, add the Balm. Most people end up using oil and cream daily and balm when they want the beard to hold its shape.

Oil, balm or cream — what's the difference?

Oil is the lightest and goes on the skin as much as the hair. Cream is a leave-in conditioner, no hold. Balm is the one with hold, for shaping.

Do I need all three?

No. Plenty of people are happy with the oil alone. The bundles exist because buying them together costs less than buying them separately, not because you're obliged to use all three.

How should I apply them?

To a damp beard, after showering. Work product into the skin first and the hair second — most people do the opposite and wonder why the skin underneath never improves. Comb through afterwards to distribute.

How long does a bottle last?

Roughly two months of daily use on a medium beard for the 1 oz oil. Longer on shorter beards, less on long ones.

Should I patch test?

Yes, and particularly if your skin reacts easily. Apply a small amount to the inner forearm once a day for five days before putting anything new on your face.

How strong is the scent?

Light. It fades over roughly four to six hours depending on your environment. It is not a cologne and it won't fight one.
