The Ultimate Beard Kit Checklist: What Every Guy Should Have in His Grooming Arsenal

The Ultimate Beard Kit Checklist: What Every Guy Should Have in His Grooming Arsenal

A well-groomed beard doesn’t happen by accident — it happens because you have the right tools and the right products. Whether you’re growing short stubble or a full beard, a proper kit makes maintenance faster and more effective.

Here’s everything a kit should include, and why each part matters.

Build your kit: The Full Beard Kit · Beard Oil · Beard Balm · Grooming Tools

1. Beard oil — the foundation

If you have a beard of any length, you need beard oil. It hydrates the hair and the skin beneath, preventing flakes, itch, redness, dryness and coarseness.

Look for something vegan, gluten-free, non-greasy and made somewhere with consistent manufacturing. Ours is also formulated without argan, almond or any tree-nut oils.

2. Beard balm — shape, control and moisture lock

Balm gives light-to-medium hold, controls flyaways, adds a fuller appearance and seals moisture in. It belongs in every kit, especially for medium and long beards. Ours uses carnauba wax rather than beeswax, so it’s genuinely vegan.

3. Beard cream — the softening step

A good beard cream softens coarse, wiry hairs, reduces friction and nourishes without heaviness. Ideal for short to medium beards or daily softening.

4. A wooden comb

Wood beats plastic — it reduces snagging, prevents static, distributes oils evenly and detangles without breakage. Plastic combs create friction that leads to split ends. The grooming kit includes one sized for beard thickness.

5. A bristle brush

Essential for training the hairs, distributing oils, removing loose flakes and smoothing texture. Short and medium beards especially benefit from daily brushing.

6. Beard scissors

Even if you don’t shape at home, you need scissors for flyaways, mustache trimming and split ends. Beard scissors need sharper, more precise blades than hair scissors. The grooming kit includes barber-grade ones.

7. A gentle beard wash

The wrong wash will undo everything else. Hair shampoo contains sulfates and harsh detergents that cause itch, flakes, redness and brittle hair. Look for sulfate-free, paraben-free, and designed for facial skin.

8. Something to exfoliate with

A gentle weekly exfoliation prevents buildup under the beard, which means fewer ingrown hairs, red patches and blocked follicles. Weekly is enough — daily is too much.

9. An aftershave or 3-in-1

Even with a full beard you still shave the cheeks, neckline and jaw edges. Our Buck 'Em All 3-in-1 is alcohol-free, which is the reason most aftershave stings.

10. A microfiber towel

Regular towels pull beard hairs. Microfiber reduces breakage, dries faster and preserves softness.

The checklist

Products: beard oil, beard balm, beard cream, beard wash.

Tools: wooden comb, bristle brush, beard scissors, microfiber towel.

Skin: gentle exfoliant, aftershave or serum.

The easiest way to build it

  • The Full Beard Kit — balm, cream, oil plus comb, brush and scissors, for less than buying separately.

  • Grooming Tools — if you already have the products and just need the tools.

  • Hemp Beard Bundle — the hemp line: balm, cream and oil together.

  • Beard Oil — if you’re buying one thing, buy this.
